when you make an incredible taco, I mean you really do it, get all that good stuff in there, proportions are just right, seasoning is on point, and it breaks and completely disintegrates after one big crunchy bite? That journey-is-the-destination, the-real-friends-were-the-tacos-we-made-along-the-way type feeling? I mean you’re still gonna get to eat all that stuff, so it’s a bummer but it’s not so bad right?
Well, Deni Avdija tried to dunk on seven-foot-five-inch Tacko Fall this week. Driving right from the left wing, he picked up speed through the paint and gathered the ball with one hand…he raised it like the Statue of Liberty as he elevated…he had the Tacko set up perfectly…and he just crunched the dunk off the back of the rim.
“Damn, I mean what can I do?" Deni said later, in good spirits*. “The basketball gods** didn't let me have it. I wanted it so bad."
Deni has completed one nice dunk in his professional career. It came back when he was playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv, in a big Euroleague game against Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce. The Fenerbahce slam is the play that ends all his highlight reels. And it looked exactly like this one:
They don’t have seven-foot-five players in the Euroleague. I mean they really only have one in the NBA. And Deni almost got him. But he’s a rookie and he can still eat whatever fell onto the plate. He has a whole career left to make my 1:35 a.m. metaphor make sense.
*The Wizards have won three games in a row. How do you like them tacos????
**Polytheism, really????
